Dining

In Paris Resto Jungle, it is hard to find your way. For the persistent ones among us, there are real treasures to be found. The following restaurants get great reviews on the internet and are tested by yours truly. Let me introduce...

Surprising dishes and a enormous wine menu with beautiful, but somewhat pricy wines. The decoration is charming and so is the service. It is located in the centre of St-Germain-Des-Prés, so the after-dinner-drinks are around the corner. Make sure to reserve a table up front. €40-60
Fish! When you’re in the mood for fish or want to avoid the crowded, shoulder-to-shoulder restaurants in the city center, go to Le Winch. Really good fish, modestly priced. The service is outstanding and you feel completely cared for. After dinner tip: go to Rue des Abbesses for a late night drink. €35-45

Down town buzz in 'Café Constant'
Crowded, popular and just around the corner of the Eiffel tower. This is a real café with non-café food. They don't take reservations so be willing to drink an 'apéro' at the bar while waiting. If you want to go out for a good meal, but not in the mood for fancy long dining, this is the place to go. €20-40

Japan in Paris!
On the streets of Rue St Anne and Rue des Petits Champs you find lots of Japanese restaurants. The Parisians come here for lunch and diner. Before 19h30 your will easily find a table, after that you may have to queue up. One of my favorites:  Kunitoraya (39 Rue Sainte-Anne) and Toyotomi
(24 Rue des Petits Champs). €10-20

Italian dining at 'Pulicinella'
Italian food is at its best when pure, rich en straightforward. At Pulcinella it is just that. Great antipasti, fresh pizza's, but also more traditional dishes. My favorite are the artichokes with prosciuto di parma and parmasan and the mushroom risotto. € 20-40

Start with a few drinks at the bar and go for dinner at the restaurant. Between 19h and 21h happy hour offers cocktails and other drinks for half the price. Food is brasserie style: simple, but good. The place is at the corner of Boulevard St Germain which brings a nice Parisian buzz. € 25-40
Being Parisian, you have to take a Sunday lunch at ‘La Mascotte’ in Montmartre. One of the last real Parisian Bistros. Every Sunday, the accordionist plays typical French Chansons. ‘Au Zinc’ (at the bar) you can order 9 fresh oysters with a glass of Muscadet for only €12, straight from the market stand in front of the bar. €10-20

In the weekends you have to queue up, but if you time it right you might be lucky. This is a cozy lunch restaurant in the Marais. Tables and chairs are gathered from different brocantes which provides a neighborly ambiance. Also, try the many homemade pies! €15-20

Falafel in 'Rue des Rosiers'
The Marais is a Jewish District in Paris. That means falafel! And all Parisians know it, because during lunch they are all waiting outside to get a table. I like 'Chez Hannah' (nr 54) best! €10-15
